Athens, May 09: Hellas Sat, the satellite which will help carrying the broadcast signal of the 2004 Athens Olympics, will be launched on May 12 from Cape Canaveral in the United States, the Greek Telecommunications Organisation (OTE), which owns the bird, said here yesterday. An earlier attempt to launch Hellas Sat, the first Greek satellite ever to go into orbit, had been cancelled due to technical problems.
The satellite's footprint stretches across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Southeastern-Central Asia.
"The Greek satellite will contribute towards the transmission of the Olympic Games," OTE chairman Lefteris Antonakopoulos said.
