Mumbai, Oct 26: The foreign institutional investors (FIIs) recorded net purchases of Rs 1,256.3 crore (USD 274.1 million) in equities but were net sellers in debt market at Rs 352.1 crore (USD 76.8 million) in the trading week ended October 24, which witnessed heavy volatility in the market on the eve of Diwali. Mutual funds (MFs) behaved exactly in contrast with FIIs to net outflows of Rs 353.25 crore in equity market and netting purchases of Rs 57.26 crore in debt instruments in the period under review, according to the data available with Securities and Exchange Board of India here.
FIIs netted their highest buy of the trading week at Rs 535.8 crore (USD 116.9 mn) on October 20 in equities followed by Rs 318.9 crore (USD 69.6 mn) on the next day.
They netted sales of Rs 87.5 crore (USD 19.1 mn) on the last day of the trading week.
On debt front, the foreign funds were net sellers to the tune of Rs 89.9 crore (USD 19.6 mn) and Rs 262.8 crore (USD 57.3 mn) on October 21 and 23 respectively.
MFs were net sellers in equities on the trading days and recorded their highest net outflow of the week at Rs 172.81 crore on October 21 followed by Rs 110.84 crore on October 20.
In debt market, they netted inflows of Rs 68.07 crore and Rs 112.36 crore on October 20 and 21 respectively.
