Uttarkashi, Oct 05: Continuous landslides today destroyed 10 more buildings in this town raising to Rs 10 crores the total loss in property since they began on the night of September 23. The landslides which are falling unabated have till now destroyed 43 buildings including government offices and private houses, officials said.


They said that the authorities have stopped the Gangotri pilgrimage in view of the landslides which are coming in the form of boulders, mud and stones on the Rishikesh-Gangotri Highway.


The highway has been sealed for traffic and only those vehicles carrying pilgrims back from Gangotri are being allowed on it.

Officials said that schools and colleges in the town will remain closed till October 11 and pointed out that as more areas come under the grip of landslides, the authorities have till now shifted 2893 people to safer places.

However no loss of life has been reported so far due to the landslides.
