Lucknow, Oct 09: The Congress today defended CBI raids at the residences of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati and some others in connection with the Taj heritage corridor controversy saying investigation into the matter was ordered by the Supreme Court. AICC general secretary and in charge of party affairs in UP Naval Kishore Sharma told reporters here that "the raids could have been said to be politically motivated had the CBI not followed the rules and procedures in this regard."
Sharma, however, said filing of the chargesheet against Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi after the declaration of assembly poll dates in five states had "cast a doubt on the motive of the Centre".
"The CBI action creates an apprehension that it is working under pressure of the Centre and it also calls into question its impartiality," he said.
