Chennai, June 15: DMK president M Karunanidhi today demanded a probe by the Centre on the treatment given to Union Minister Murasoli Maran at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi and the corporate Apollo Hospital here, before he was shifted to US for treatment seven months back.
Expressing concern over the condition of Maran, who is
also his nephew, Karunanidhi said Maran's condition received a
setback a week ago.
He alleged that fungus infection had developed while Maran was being treated at the AIIMS after he underwent a heart surgery. By the time he was shifted to United States from Apollo Hospital here, Maran was totally paralysed.
"He is unable to come out from that condition despite treatment at the US. The Centre should order an inquiry into the method of treatment and reasons for the development of fungus and why he was paralysed”, Karunanidhi said.
Karunanidhi said he would be writing a letter to Prime Minister A B Vajpayee on this adding that he had already told about the need for an inquiry to the Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare A Raja.
