Ahmedabad, Feb 14: Gujarat High Court today released on bail Abid Hussain Shiekh and Abdul Rehman Abdul Razzak Dhantia, the two prime accused in the Godhra train carnage of February 27 last year. Justice C K Buch granted bail to Sheikh and Razzak, who were allegedly part of the mob that torched the S-6 coach of Sabarmati Express, with a surety bond of Rs 25,000.
Advocate P M Thakker, who appeared on behalf of the accused, told “the court observed that the identity of the two accused was not properly established and out of the 100 witnesses, only one has named Sheikh and Dhantia as part of the mob.”
The court also observed that both did not have any criminal background and they were Muslim leaders in Godhra town.
Both the accused were arrested on February 28 last year.
According to sources, Sheikh is a lawyer by profession while Dhantia is a businessman of the town. Bureau Report
