Ahmedabad, Sept 20: After a gap of nearly 20 days, several parts of north and south Gujarat and a few parts of Saurashtra were lashed by heavy rains this evening.
Rains accompanied by thunder at many places caused water-logging in several areas in the city.
Regional director of meteorological department R K Kankane said that it was a "temporary phenomenon that lasts a day or two" and generally witnessed during "withdrawal of monsoon."
"There is no system, but satellite picture reveals good convection (cloud formation when moist air rises due to heat) in eastern Gujarat, which has brought thunderstorm activity,” Kankane told newspersons.
He said that north Gujarat, south Gujarat and a few parts of Saurashtra have received rains but added that "it was a localised phenomenon as monsoon is in withdrawal phase."
Reports from Surat said that heavy rains lashed the city and its surrounding areas and some parts of the district and lasted for about an hour late this evening
Rainfall was reported from the talukas like Choryasi, Valod, Olpad, Mahuva, Mangrol and Uchhal.
