New Delhi, Oct 25: An Ordinance to amend the
Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) to confer statutory powers
on Pota review committees is expected to be promulgated in a
day or day, official sources said here today.
This follows the arrival of President A P J Abdul Kalam from a week-long three-nation tour. "With the arrival of the president, the ordinance is likely to be promulgated in a day or two," the sources said.
The Union Cabinet on October 21 had approved an ordinance giving statutory powers to the Pota review committees and decided to introduce a bill to replace the ordinance in the winter session of Parliament.
While a three-member central review committee is headed by Justice Arun Saharya, states could also set up such committees to deal with complaints lodged by those charged with Pota. Bureau Report
