Lucknow, July 30: Claiming that Supreme Court's observations on the uniform civil code could have "serious ramifications like the Babri mosque issue" as BJP and other saffron outfits were trying to gain political mileage from it, the Samajwadi Party today urged prominent Muslim organisations to meet and discuss steps to foil any such attempts. "In order to counter the demands of the RSS, VHP and other communal organsitions to implement common civil code, it was imperative that a joint meeting of all the prominent Muslim organsitions be convened soon," leader of opposition in Uttar Pradesh assembly Mohd Azam khan told reporters here.

Khan alleged that the BJP wanted to take political mileage of the apex court's observations by making it an election issue which, he said, could prove detrimental for country's unity and integrity. "The issue of common civil code could have serious ramifications like the Babri mosque issue," he said.

Khan said that those who were raising the demand for the implementation of the uniform civil code had doubtful credentials and were widely regarded as communal.

"The secular minded people have not raised any such demand," he said. Bureau Report
