Kanchipuram, June 22: Defence Minister George Fernandes today said China wanted friendly relationship with India. "China wanted peace and tranquility on the borders with us so that both the countries could have faster economic growth," he said at a function in Ennathur, near here. Fernandes, who visited Beijing recently, said, "A nation, which had the largest economy had to have the largest military power to prevent enemy from creating any difficulties. There is nothing wrong in having a strength to defend the country." Union Finance Minister Jaswant Singh said if India had to be in the forefront of the nations in the world, "It should not be in the second rank and to reach the top position we have to work towards achieving this goal.” Bureau Report
