China receives 38.02 mn USD as foreign donations to fight SARS
Beijing, June 06: China, the worst-hit nation from SARS epidemic, has received 38.02 million USD in donations from international organisations and foreign governments including India to combat the flu-like killer disease.

According to statistics released by the Ministry of Commerce, the foreign donations include Japan's donation equivalent to 1.7 billion Japanese Yen, Germany's donation of 10 million Euros, Britain's donation of 5 million USD.
The government of Italy donated one million USD, Australia gave 1.7 mn Australian dollars, Canada donated 3.14 mn USD as well as donations from the US, New Zealand, South Korea and various UN agencies, the ministry said.

Apart from these, several foreign governments, including India and Pakistan donated medical equipment and medicines to assist the Chinese government's fight against the highly-contagious disease that has killed 334 people and infected over 5,000 people in China alone. In the Chinese capital, Beijing, the worst-hit city in the world, the death toll from Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome stood at 181. Bureau Report
