Chennai,Nov 03: Notice to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa through her power of Attorney holder and stayed further proceedings in the defamation case filed by her against DMK leader Arcot Veeraswamy for certain alleged derogatory remarks made by him. A bench comprising justice Y K Sabharwal and justice B N Agrawal stayed further proceedings on a petition filed by Veeraswamy challenging the Madras High Court order refusing him exemption from personal appearance before a Chennai court proceeding with the defamation case.
The petitioner has requested for personal exemption on the ground that he was in a very bad health condition, could barely walk and needed constant medical attention. A bench comprising justice Y K Sabharwal and justice B N Agrawal stayed further proceedings on a petition filed by Veeraswamy challenging the Madras High Court order refusing him exemption from personal appearance before a Chennai court proceeding with the defamation case.

Jayalalithaa through her power of Attorney holder Sethuraman had filed the complaint case against Veeraswamy on April 7, 1997 before the metropolitan magistrate at Egmore in Chennai alleging that her reputation has been harmed by his statements. Bureau Report
