New Delhi, July 04: The Centre today sought to steer clear of the Tamil Nadu government's decision on registration of a fir against MDMK leader and MP Vaiko saying that law and order is a state subject. "Centre does not come into the picture. Law and order is a state subject", minister of state for home I D Swami told reporters.

State government did not need Centre's guidance in the matter, he said adding it was for the state government to pursue it.

According to media reports, Vaiko has repeated his statement and he was standing by it, Swami said.
