Railways have decided to dissolve with immediate effect the high-profile advisory committee headed by Sam Pitroda, set up to suggest a modernisation plan. Railway minister, Nitish Kumar, has taken a decision to this effect, sources said and did not cite any reason.
Apart from suggesting a comprehensive modernisation plan for the railways, the committee, set up during the term of Mamata Banerjee, was to identify areas for resource mobilisation and to evolve ways for development of railway assets to generate funds. Besides Pitroda, who was earlier technology adviser to the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, other members of the committee were former member (traffic) Shanti Narain and former MP, Dinesh Trivedi.
