go for the Union Budget for 2004-05, BMS-affiliated Government
Employees National Confederation today demanded higher income
tax relief for employees and conversion of DA into dearness
pay for all terminal benefits.
In a memorandum, which would be sent to Prime Minister
Atal Bihari Vajpayee, GENC said there was an urgent need to
set up a bi-partite wage negotiation machinery as recommended
by the fifth pay commission.
The Sangh Parivar Union, which plans to hold a march to Parliament on December 12, has asked government to scrap the new contributory pension scheme apart from seeking constitutional amendments for incorporating the right to strike.
Employees belonging to defence, railways, postal, income tax, telecom, Doordarshan, government printing press, Central Secretariat and state governments have expressed solidarity for the December 12 protest march, GENC deputy general secretary Girish Awasthi claimed. On the need for raising the income tax limit, Awasthi said, "The Central government should enhance the exemption limit in the next budget and house rent allowance (HRA) should be exempted from its purview."
Regarding merger of DA, he said the Centre should issue orders for converting 50 per cent DA into 'dearness pay' for all terminal benefits. Bureau Report
