Bangalore, June 17: BE IT on small screen or the silver one, certain themes, though stereotypical, seem to be making the rounds constantly.
The "Saas-Bahu" soap, the "other woman", and the rich girl-poor boy potboilers, are just a few of the many tried and tested formulae that the audiences seem to be getting tired of. But very soon, a film "with a difference" is going to come their way.
Deepak Tijori, the protagonist's best friend in Aashiqui, Khilaadi, and Sadak, has now turned a director with Oops!.
Solitude of middle-aged affluent women, today's youth, and the importance of making the right decisions in life are the main themes of the film.
The storyline involves three friends, two boys and a girl, where the guys take to working in a strip bar for want of wealth, and land in a mess in their search for power and status.
Deepak Tijori says: "I wanted to show India in a global light. It's also an attempt to reach out to the international audience."
Newcomers Kiran Janjani, Vikas Sethi, and Adyasha play the lead roles.
Mita Vasisht, Kiran Kumar, Mink Singh, and Amit Singh Thakur are also in the star cast.
Kiran, who has appeared in the music video of Nitin Bali's Neele neele ambar, says: "This is my first movie. It is definitely exciting. Oops! is about a mistake. It teaches the youth how not to commit such mistakes."
Adyasha talks about how she relates to her role in the film and did not have to "act" too much.
"In most films, women are portrayed as objects of desire. For a change the men are going to be seen in that light. Women have been portrayed using men to satisfy their needs," she says. Mita Vasisht feels that the film is going to be path breaking in terms of its theme.
Ali G., a strip choreographer, has been specially employed for strip bar scenes in the film.
He claims that he had to tone down the act i so as not to offend the tastes of audiences.
`Oops!' comes in two versions, English and "Hinglish".
''It took just 44 days and Rs. 2.5 crore to make the film," says Deepak Tijori. "The film's music is unconventional. There is narrative song and a fusion of Indian and the metal genre of music".
Singers such as KK, Sonu Nigam, Shaan, Sunidhi Chauhan, and Hariharan have contributed to the film's music.
Ask him about his expectations from this "A" film to be released on July 11 in India, U.K., U.S., and Africa, and Deepak Tijori will tell you that the film is exactly what audiences today are looking for.
