Ahmedabad, Aug 28: Role of police in Naroda Patia which witnessed the most gruesome massacre in the post-Godhra riots, today came under severe attack by a Muslim woman who deposed before the Nanavati Commission.
Deposing before the two-man inquiry commission, Fatima
Bibi Sheikh said policemen of her area deliberately did not
save them and instead diverted women and children towards the
'armed Hindu mob' on February 28.
Sheikh narrated the horrific incidents of the carnage on that day, to Justice (Retd) G T Nanavati and Justice (Retd) K G Shah in the conference room, where they were recording statements of the riot victims and witnesses.
Sheikh, alleged that when she approached some SRP personnel, stationed close by, they said, "If Muslims in Godhra had not done that (killing the karsevaks) then your condition would not have become like this."
She also accused a local bus conductor of her area, identified as Tiwari of cheating her by promising protection, and instead directing towards the rioting mob.
