Kohima, Jan 29: A Nagaland regional party, Nationalist Democratic Movement (NDM), has announced it will not enter into a pre-poll alliance with any political party for the February 26 assembly elections. Releasing the party's election manifesto at Dimapur yesterday, NDM president and former chief minister K L Chishi however, did not rule out post-poll alliance, if the situation warranted.
The NDM also released a list of 22 candidates at the party's central council meeting yesterday.
In its manifesto, the party promised to find a solution to the Naga political problem and address unemployment in the state. The manifesto said the NDM would endeavour to bring about a solution to the Naga problem for which it favoured active involvement of churches and NGOs.
Chishi dismissed the allegation that his party was hand in glove with certain underground organisations and called upon party workers to be vigilant against vested interests in the run-up to the polls.
Meanwhile, opposition party Nagaland People's Front today hinted it might contest 50 seats leaving the remaining 10 seats to like-minded parties even as no concrete pre-poll alliance has emerged so far.
Four non-Congress political parties -- BJP, NPF, JD(U) and Rashtriya Lok Dal -- had agreed to form a broad-based alliance to fight ruling Congress in the assembly elections
Party sources said the NPF would organise a rally at Kohima local ground on January 31 for which it had requested Samata Party president and defence minister George Fernandes to address it. The party would also release its poll manifesto and announce the list of candidates on the same day. Bureau Report
