Kozhikode, Oct 18: CPI(M) today said it would approach the Kerala Governor if assembly Speaker Vakkom Purushothaman and Chief Minister A K Antony refused to take early steps to convene a special session of the house to discuss its notice seeking a resolution to remove the Speaker. "If the Speaker and the Chief Minister fail to respond (to the notice by taking steps to convene a special session of the House) soon, we will take up the matter with the Governor," CPI(M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan said today.

Accusing Purushothaman of "willfully discrediting the speaker's post by actively involving in Congress group politics", Vijayan said by "misusing the office", he has "breached all democratic norms".

"If the Speaker still believes in upholding democracy, he himself should come forward and recommend to the government to convene a special assembly session and, if not, Antony should take necessary steps," he said.
He wondered why parliamentary affairs minister M M Hassan has said that the government had no intention to request the Governor to convene a special session of the House.

On Congress Legislature Party secretary secretary Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan's notice against three CPI(M) leaders, including the state secretary, for alleged breach of privilege, Vijayan said, "we did nothing undemocratic and it was the speaker who had indulged in partisan politics".
