Nasik, Dec 06: Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, Narayan Rane today demanded an inquiry by the Special Investigating Team (SIT) into the recent seizure of fake currency and stamps from a bungalow here which was unearthed by ZEE News correspondent Yogesh Khare.
"I have no trust in police since the department comes under Home Ministry, which is headed by Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal. We demand an inquiry either by SIT or some agency equivalent to it," Rane told newspersons in front of `Padma' bungalow from where currency and stamp papers, both Indian and foreign, were seized on December one.
Referring to Mumbai Police's request yesterday for a CID probe into the alleged fake currency and stamps case, Rane, however, ruled it out saying that "CID too comes under the home ministry".
Stating reasons for his visit to the bungalow, he said, "My visit here is to inspect the locality, to check out who rented it to Prasoon Agrawal and whether the police was aware of the stock of stamps in the bungalow?"
"Since Agrawal is known as Abhay Bansal in Versova and Panvel, his credentials should be verified properly," he said.
Rane also said he will take up the issue during the assembly session starting on December eight at Nagpur.
Expressing unhappiness over the performance of the DF government, the opposition leader said "Shinde is following a one-point agenda to `while away time' till next elections and he is not at all serious about different problems faced by the state like top police officers being arrested in fake stamp paper scam, scarcity situation in various parts and economic of the state."
