New Delhi, June 03: In a bid to strengthen the peace initiatives taken by Centre to normalise relations with Pakistan, a high level delegation of sitting and retired judges of Supreme Court and high courts would undertake a goodwill mission to Pakistan this month. In the week long visit, commencing from June 19, the delegation would exchange their views regarding the laws on terrorism and other matters relating to judicial system, the convenor of Indian Council of Jurists (ICJ) Adish C Agarwala said here today.
The delegation would meet the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan, Chief Justice of Pakistan Supreme Court and law ministers of Pakistan and Punjab province, he said.
Carrying the message of peace and harmony in the sub-continent, the delegation would visit Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi and Quetta, he said.
Prominent among those visiting are Supreme Court judge, Justice K G Balakrishnan, former apex court judge Justice G T Nanavati, now heading the commission of inquiry for Gujarat riots, Justice Fakruddin of Chattisgarh High Court Justice A P Misra, chairman of legal education committee of Bar Council of India and, Justice V S Malimath (chairman of committee on reforms of criminal justice system).
Earlier, an 80-member delegation was scheduled to visit Pakistan in May, 1999 but the trip was cancelled on the instructions of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee following the Kargil conflict between the two countries. Bureau Report
