Wardha (Maharshtra), Sept 28: Government today said it was targeting setting up over 25,000 projects in the country generating employment opportunities for over four lakh rural youth.
"Globalisation, liberalisation of economy and computerisation have brought down the numbers of those involved in manual work, rendering a large number of country's youth population unemployed," Minister of State for rural and agro products, Sangh Priya Gautam said here.
"The government would set up more than 25,000 projects to provide employment to about four lakh people in khadi and villages industries under the rural employment generation programme," he said after 'Gramodaya Manthan' of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).
Village entrepreneurs, artisans, policy makers and stake holders in the sector participated in 'Gramodaya Manthan' (brain-storming session) to chalk out the strategies for promotion of khadi and village industries in the country.
"We want to stop migration of villagers to urban centres by encouraging entrepreneurship in the rural areas," the Minister said, adding the recently launched insurance scheme providing risk cover of Rs 50,000 is another step by the government to promote village and cottage industries which still retains the greatest potential to give large scale employment.
