Jammu, Dec 04: The Jammu and Kashmir government would appoint 3350 teachers under Sarva Shikshya Abhiyan (SSA) and Education Guarantee Scheme (EGS) with a view to streamlining functioning of education department in the state. The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held here yesterday under the chairmanship of Minister of School Education Harsh Dev Singh.

Addressing the meeting, Singh stressed on the need for providing basic infrastructure, including teaching and study material, to improve the education scenario in the state. He said teachers recruited under the two schemes would be imparted preliminary training from January and village-level education committees would be entrusted with the responsibility of providing accommodation facilities to them and ensuring community involvement.
The minister expressed satisfaction over the introduction of Dogri and Kashmiri languages in schools and called upon the Board Of School Education (Bose) authorities to come up with primers in Pahari, Gojri and Punjabi so that these languages could be included in the curriculum. The minister said the present government was committed to an education policy which would enable "our children could face the challenges" in the growing competitive world, with confidence.
The meeting also agreed that all the schools in the state should have computer laboratories and it was decided that 50 per cent schools would be equipped with computer-related infrastructure by the next academic year. Bureau Report
