London, Feb 01: Warning of a "significant threat from terrorism" to visibly western institutions and individuals in Pakistan, Britain today advised its nationals against all but essential travel to that country, and asked those who are already there to quit unless they have compelling reasons to stay.
"While British nationals of western origin are more
likely to be targeted by terrorists, all British nationals
should be aware that there is a high threat from
indiscriminate bombing throughout Pakistan," Britain said in
its latest travel advisory.
It said there was reliable evidence that terrorists were targeting western, including British interests throughout Pakistan. "We believe these threats should be taken seriously," it said listing the number of terrorist attacks in recent days.
"There have been incidents of kidnapping and terrorist murders, including by suicide bombers against western and Christian institutions and individuals across Pakistan. For this reason, it is not practical to separate different areas of Pakistan into those of greater or lesser risk."
The advisory also stated that there was also a risk of conflict between India and Pakistan and in the event of such a conflict, Britain's capacity to evacuate British nationals would be limited.
