The Assam government has effected a major reshuffle at the senior police officer level to make the department more effective, official sources said. According to an order issued on Tuesday, Shankar Barua, on deputation in the Central government, has been posted as IGP (Law and Order).

Mohan Raj, DIG, who has been looking after the law and order, was posted in the Home Guard and Civil Defence department. S P Kar, who has been working as IGP(Security), has been transferred and posted in CID department.
Wati Ao of Arms and Training department, has been given Kar's portfolio. D N Datta will hand over the border wing portfolio to take over Ao's post.
Additional DGP(SB) Sarada Prasad has been transferred and posted in place of Dutta. Bureau Report
