A moderate intensity earthquake, measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale, hit Pakistan-Afghanistan border region early on Saturday, meteorological department said in New Delhi.

The quake, with an epicenter of 36.3 degree north and 71.8 degree east, occurred at 0213 IST (2043 GMT), it said.
