US Assistant Secretary of State (South Asia) Christina Rocca will hold talks with senior government officials, heads of business and non-governmental organisations and consult colleagues in her country's embassy during a visit to India on Saturday, State Department spokesperson Richard Boucher said.
"Rocca's current visit to South Asia is undertaken as part of her regular responsibilities to go out and talk to people, consult with them, understand the situation and discuss current developments," he said at a briefing on Friday.
Rocca has already visited Bangladesh and Maldives and is currently in Sri Lanka. Her last stopover in the region would be New Delhi where she would arrive later on Saturday.
Rocca will not go to Pakistan or Afghanistan, though they are also in the South Asian Bureau. Asked when she was likely to visit Pakistan, Boucher said, "She was in Pakistan in January and she will go back again when her responsibilities require." Bureau Report
