One killed in Pak shelling in J&K
Jammu, June 02: Several Pakistani bunkers were destroyed across the Line of Control in retaliatory action by Indian troops, while one woman was killed and eight civilians injured in Pakistani shelling in Akhnoor sector since Sunday evening, official sources said here on Sunday.
The sources said Pakistani troops began shelling last evening and continued upto 2300 hours in Shahpur, Kerni and Mendhar areas of Poonch district.
Indian troops retaliated, destroying several Pakistani bunkers across the LoC in Kahuta, Nizapir and Satwal areas, the sources said, adding several Pakistani soldiers manning these bunkers were believed to have been killed and a couple vehicles also damaged.
Shelling exchange also started in Balnoi and Sangra areas of Mendhar. However, there was no report of any casualty or damage reported from the Indian side so far.
One woman, Sushi Bala, was killed and eight civilians were injured in Garkhal area of Akhnoor sector this morning, they said adding that firing exchange was going on in some areas.
Pakistani troops also resorted to heavy shelling in Noushera sector of Rajouri district from 7.00 pm Saturday targetting Jhanghar, Kalasian, Rumlidhar and Kalal areas for about two hours.
Artillery and mortar shelling exchange along the LoC was also reported in Kargil and drass areas, the sources said.
Intermittent small arms firing exchange was reported along International Border in some areas of Jammu and Kathua districts on Saturday night. Bureau Report
