Hajipur (Bihar), May 05: Police have launched a massive manhunt to arrest elusive BJP MLA Nityanand Rai and a former RJD minister Rajendra Rai after a district court here issued arrest warrants against them in connection with a murder case. "They have gone underground, but police would arrest them soon," sub divisional police officer of Hajipur, Z Ahmed told a news agency today. Police raided the houses and other possible hideouts of the duo wanted in connection with the murder of Ram Devan Rai, brother of RJD MLC Bishundeo Rai in 1999 at station Chowk area in Vaishali district.
Four persons including Nityanand Rai, elected from Hajipur, and former minister of state for science and technology Rajendra Rai were named accused in the FIR lodged with the town police station. The police obtained arrest warrants against them from the court of chief judicial magistrate A K Sharma on May 3.
The case was closed but reopened by Vaishali SP Shobha Ohatkar after Bishundeo Rai raised the issue of his brother's killing in the state assembly.
The SP in her report said the charges levelled against the accused were true and ordered their arrest. Deputy Inspector General of Police, Tirhut Range, S K Bhardwaj, who was asked by the Director General of Police D P Ojha to supervise the case, also found the charges against them to be true.
