Ahmedabad, Oct 13: One Railway employee sustained minor injuries as 12 coaches of the 2478 Jammu-Tawi-Hapa Sarvoday Express derailed near Jakwada village close to Viramgaam town in the district this afternoon, official sources here said. According to sources at Western Railway headquarters in Mumbai, the bogies from the rear side derailed between Charodiya and Jhakharvada, about 12 km from Viramgaam. Railway control officials said a team, comprising Additional Divisional Regional Manager and Divisional Commercial Manager has already left for the spot. Officials confirmed that passengers were being transferred to the remaining 12 coaches of the train which will soon resume its journey to Jamnagar. Earlier arrangements had been made to take the passengers to Jamnagar and Rajkot by buses.
The train engine and the remaining 12 coaches have been examined and found fit for the journey.
The relief work was on in full swing, Western Railway Senior PRO, Bhagwat Dahisarkar, told reporters.
The Jamnagar-bound train had left Ahmedabad station at 2.40 pm and derailed at around 3.35 pm near the village, the officials said.
Officials are also clearing another track near Dhangadhara where a goods train had derailed earlier in the day.
Officials said normal rail traffic on the route will be restored as soon the derailed coaches are cleared from the tracks.
