Pondicherry, Oct 29: The executive committee of the CPI state committee here has called upon the Centre to accord special category status to Pondicherry. This would enable the elected government to go ahead with the decision to implement welfare measures, the committee which met yesterday under the chairmanship of secretary of the party N Kalainathan said.
The meeting also wanted proper enumeration of families below poverty line, bonus for the workers in the Bharathi and Swadeshi mills run by the National Textile Corporation, revision of wages for the AFT mills run by Pondicherry government and also steps to prevent occurrence of crimes in the union territory.
