Siliguri, July 21: West Bengal Congress MLA Hamidul Rahman was released from Islampur jail following a bail order of the Kolkata high court, a senior police official said here today.
Rahman, who represents Chopra constituency of Uttar Dinajpur district, was released yesterday as per the court order, jail superintendent Rabindranath Ghosh said. The MLA was arrested by the police along with 11 others, including Chopra block Congress president Ashok Roy, on charges of killing CPI-M leader Akbar Ali and indulging in violence a couple of days before the may Panchayet poll.
Roy and the other arrested are still in judicial custody, Ghosh added.
