Johannesburg, Nov 28: The world's number one golfer Tiger Woods has proposed to his girlfriend, Swedish model Elin Nordegren, at a picturesque South African game reserve, state television reported yesterday.
SABC Television News said Woods and Nordegren, who have been dating for about two years, got engaged at the luxurious Shamwari Game Reserve near Port Elizabeth in South Africa's scenic Eastern Cape Province.
SABC quoted a game ranger named "Lucky" who was accompanying the couple as saying that Woods had proposed during a spectacular Bushveld sunset.
The owner of the game reserve, Adrian Gardiner, said Lucky had accompanied Woods and the former model on an overnight wilderness trail where they slept under the stars in sleeping bags.
Woods was taking a break after playing in the Presidents Cup Golf at George in the Western Cape last week. The tournament ended in a tie and Woods' US team and the Internationals, shared the cup.
The engagement comes after a season in which Woods failed to win a major for the first time in five years – his target is to shatter Jack Nicklaus' record of 21 major wins.
In 2001 he set the golf world alight when holding all four grand slams at once.
