Chandigarh, Sept 30: Centre will spend Rs 1200 crore for computerisation of 600 district courts all across the country and Rs 6.1 crore on setting up of fast track courts in Chandigarh and Delhi, Union Minister of State for Law P C Thomas today said. "The matter of computerisation of district courts has been taken up by the ministry and is under process. We have approached the Planning Commission in this regard," Thomas said, adding that a sum of Rs two crore would be spent to computerise each district court. He said that the National Informatics Centre had started a computerisation programme of the Supreme Court and high courts in the country. Delivering an address on the concluding day of the two-day international legal conference here, which was attended among others by over 200 delegates from Pakistan, Nepal, China, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sudan, Thomas said that sometimes delay in justice delivery creates a different kind of pressure on society and then a suitable ground for problems like terrorism to breed. Supreme Court judge Justice S B Sinha said giving timely justice to millions of ordinary people is what our judicial system should strive for.
Supreme Court judge Justice K G Balakrishnan said with continuous cooperation of the Bar and the bench, justice could be ensured in time.
"If a common man is alienated, mind you (lawyers) and I (judges) will not have any role to play," he said.
