Lucknow, May 19: Apparently stung by the negative reaction to the idea of his return to BJP, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh today vowed to remove the BSP-BJP coaltion government and work towards ensuring the deafeat of the BJP at the hustings. "What is the use of joining the BJP which has already lost its sheen and is struggling hard to maintain its hold over its support base," he said here.
"I would rather work to consolidate my party and work alongwith the Samajwadi Party to pave the way for the formation of a third front which could later become the rallying point for all the parties opposed to the BJP and BSP," he said. Kalyan reiterated that though the three senior BJP leaders Balbir Punj, Dinanath Misra and Gurumurthy, all considered close to Vajpayee and Advani, met him with a specific agenda, he did not deem it fit to join the party for which his 40-year-long dedicated services hold no (no) importance.
The meeting with these leaders had led to speculations of his return to the BJP before the Lok Sabha elections. The Rashtriya Kranti Party president said that he would maintain the identity of his party and would also be contesting the coming assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh where the party leaders were busy identifying 'Lodh' dominated constituencies.
Kalyan, belonging to the Lodh caste, has considerable sway over them and plans to cause a dent in the support base of the BJP in Madhya Pradesh where the party has projected Uma Bharti, another Lodh leader, as the chief ministerial candidate.
He claimed that his RKP was instrumental in harming the electoral fortunes of BJP candidates in 70 constituencies in the last elections and would further work to demolish the party. Bureau Report
