Raipur, June 16: Four police personnel, including a sub-inspector, were kidnapped today by People's War Group (PWG) naxalites in Bastar division of Chhattisgarh. The policemen were kidnapped from Chandla Nallah area, about 650 km from here when they were returning from official duty, Bijapur SP S S Sori said.
When the police party was returning to Pamed from Cherla, close to Khammam district of Andhra Pradesh, they were ambushed by naxalites, he said, adding two constables managed to run away in their vehicle, while riders on two other motorcycles ran away towards the forest area. However, Bishuram Nishad, the constable who was behind the officer, somehow slipped out of that area and reached Pamed police station.
On hearing about the incident, another police party rushed to the spot and fired at naxalites. The encounter continued for about an hour but it yielded no result, he said. The police party, during search operation, found both the motorcycles left by police. They were burnt down but there was no trace of the policemen.
Sori said a joint combing operation with Khammam police is on to trace the policemen. Bureau Report
