Baghdad, May 01: Iraqis vented their anger today after seeing television graphic images of US military police apparently mistreating detainees at the biggest US-run jail complex in the country. "The occupiers can do anything. They did," furniture shop owner Faez Ahmed said in one of many furious reactions after Arab satellite news channels broadcast the pictures.

The photos include one of a hooded Iraq prisoner with wires attached to his hands and forced to stand on a box. Another showed a woman soldier pointing at a naked prisoner with a black bag over his head.

"This is a huge crime. They occupy our country. They throw Iraqis in jail and humiliate them. We know a lot of prisoners are innocent. The best thing to do is resist the occupation," said Khaled Najem, 50, a member of Iraq`s Shiite Muslim majority which initially welcomed the US-led toppling of the regime last year.
Akil Taleb, a 26-year-old Sunni Muslim, added, "I was very angry when I saw the pictures of what they do to Iraqis in jail. The images were very tough.

"I`m very surprised because I didn`t imagine they would do that. They arrived in Iraq to be liberators and they promised security."
