Ferozepur, Jan 12: The Border Security Force in Punjab today claimed to have unearthed a tunnel in New Mohammad and Kasoke Sectors of Ferozepur. It is suspected to have been dug by Pakistan's ISI to smuggle men and arms and ammunition in India.

Addressing a news conference here, BSF inspector general S N Jain said during an intelligence operation on the intervening night of January 10-11, a two-foot-deep and 20-metre-long tunnel was found. Some wild animals were also found in the tunnel, he added. The digging of the tunnel must have taken 25-30 days, he said, adding such tunnels were dug during foggy conditions for infiltration purposes.

He also said it was the fifth tunnel to have been found since March 1997 till date. New instruments were being installed on the fencing wire to detect the movement of animals and people, if any, across the border, he informed. He said elephant grass in this area would also be burnt which came in handy for the infiltrators to hide themselves during infiltration.
