Ahmedabad, Mar 24: The Gujarat High Court today granted seven days time to the state government to file replies to the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by all India Christian Council, demanding stay on alleged discreet surveys on Christian community being carried out on orders of the state government. Advocate general Suresh Shelat, who appeared on behalf of the government, had urged the court to grant him “some time to study and prepare the case.”
The court fixed April 7 as the date for next hearing.
The AICC had moved the court on March 10 following media reports of a ‘discreet survey’ on Christians allegedly ordered by Gujarat government in the wake of the anti-conversion bill to be tabled in the on-going budget session of the assembly.
The council has also written to the union home secretary and secretary parliamentary affairs seeking details of “the question regarding Christian community raised by former Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan, as claimed by Gujarat minister of state for home Amit Shah.
