Kolkata, June 11: CPI (M) candidate Anadi Sahu has won the assembly by-election from Vidyasagar seat in the city by defeating his nearest rival Mohua Mondal of the Congress with a margin of over 19,000 votes, Chief Electoral Officer’s Nurul Haque said. With this win CPI(M) retained the prestigious Vidyasagar seat, which was vacated following the death of CPI-M chief whip in the state assembly Lakshmi De.
Altogether eight candidates, including BJP-Trinamool Congress alliance contestant Ashoke Sinha, were in the fray.

Mohua Mondal, daughter of suspended Trinamool Congress leader Ajit Panja, had lost the same seat in the last assembly elections on a Trinamool Congress ticket.

The CEO said that CPI(M) was also leading in Nabadwip (SC) Lok Sabha by-election leaving behind its nearest rival Trinamool Congress till the counting of fourth round.

The seat was vacated following the death of the TC candidate Ananda Mohan Biswas, he said. Altogether eight contestants were in the fray from Nabadwip (SC) seat including Alokesh Das of CPI(M) and Abir Ranjan Biswas of TC. Bureau Report
