Rameshwaram, Nov 06: The Tamil Nadu coastal wing police and the Indian naval personnel had been put on alert to monitor the coastal areas following tense situation in Sri Lanka, official sources said today.
The sources said patrolling had been intensified further, and police had been deployed to all the sensitive coastal villages.
Though there was no likelihood of militants sneaking into the Indian territory, the coastal areas would be watched closely day and night. The checkposts had also been asked to have a close watch of vehicles coming in the area.
The alert comes in the wake of the Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga declaring a state of emergency in the island nation, a day after dismissing the information, interior and defence ministers and suspending the Parliament. Bureau Report
