Chennai, Aug 12: MDMK chief and Lok Sabha member Vaiko, detained under Pota, left here for Delhi this morning to exercise his franchise in the Vice-Presidential election today. Vaiko, lodged in the Vellore central prison, about 140 km from here, left by a scheduled Indian airlines flight after police brought him here by road.
Allowing a petition by Vaiko, the madras high court on Friday directed the state police to permit him to proceed to Delhi by air to cast his vote in the election. The court, however, had restrained him from speaking to the media.
Vaiko was arrested on July 11 for allegedly making speeches in favour of the banned LTTE outfit at a public meeting at Tirumangalam on June 29.
