Kolkata, Aug 02: Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly yesterday visited the site for the cricket ground being developed by the West Bengal government at Salt Lake here for holding domestic matches. Ganguly, who went to the site along with state Urban Development Minister Ashok Bhattacharya, was shown the plan of the ground located near Central Park in the Karunamoyee area.
He suggested that the plan include provisions for 4-6 practice pitches, dressing rooms for two teams as also a gymnasium. Welcoming the state government's venture, Ganguly said that the city at present did not have any large cricket ground other than the Eden Gardens.
''The problem in our country is that youngsters shine on small grounds. Later, when they have to play on large grounds of international standards, they feel all at sea,'' he said.
Ganguly, who has consented to be associated with the venture and monitor work of the ground and wicket from time to time, also planted some saplings at the site.
Bhattacharya said that the ground would be ready by next December-January, and matches could be played there from next season. Bureau Report
