Srinagar, June 08: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congres
Committee today said it would take up with the party high
command the matter of its reorganisation for establishing a
wider base and strengthening the party ranks.
"We will take up with the high command the matter of
reorganisation of the JKPCC as all the top office bearers of
the state unit have multiple responsibilities. A system needs
to be put in place so that the party does not fall behind in
the state," Deputy Chief Minister and senior vice president of
the state unit, Mangat Ram Sharma, told reporters here.
JKPCC president Ghulam Nabi Azad was given additional charge of three states during the Congress party office bearers reshuffle while both senior vice presidents of the state unit -- Sharma and Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed -- are ministers in the coalition government.
Asked if he felt the necessity for change of guard in the state, Sharma replied in negative saying "I am sure he (Azad) can manage all his duties but a system had to be in place that will look after the party matters if the chief is away from the state for a few days."
Sharma said besides being an active partner in the coalition government in the state, the party also needed to widen its base and strengthen the ranks. In reply to a question, Sharma said "we have an understanding (with PDP) not to try to break each other's members".
Expressing confidence that the government would complete its full term, he said the party high command would decide who would be the chief minister after Mufti Mohammad Sayeed completed his three years. Congress is to take over the top post for the next three years as past of its agreement with PDP. Bureau Report
