Aizawl, July 11: The eighth round of talks between the Mizoram government and Tripura's BRU National Liberation Front (BNLF) who has been demanding creation of a BRU area Development Council in Mizoram will be held here today, official sources said today.
The talks had reached a deadlock during the seventh round in October last after the state government told the BNLF delegation that the government could not concede the demand for creation of Bru Area Development Council.
The six-member BNLF delegation led by its president Surjomoni Reang and four member delegation of Bru Welfare Association of Mizoram led by its president Biakmawia had already arrived here for the talks. Mizoram government delegation would be led by state chief secretary H V Lalringa.
This is the first time BNLF president Surjomoni has come to Aizawl to participate in talks as the delegation was earlier led by Bruto Meska and Zaithanga Reang, "communication" secretary and "home" secretary respectively of the outfit.
Top officials and delegation members told media persons that the government had informed the BNLF delegates during the last rounds of talks that the state government would make all efforts in implementing developmental schemes for uplift of the BRU community. Bureau Report
