Kathmandu, July 10: Ruling out any mediatory role in resolving the ongoing political crisis, India today said it would like the "internal problems" of the Himalayan kingdom to
be resolved without any outside interference.
India is ready to provide whatever help Nepal requires
to attain stability but would not mediate in resolving the
political difference that have surfaced in the Himalayan
kingdom, said Foreign Secretary Kanwal Sibal, who met Nepalese
Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa and a number of other
leaders here.
"The problem Nepal is currently facing should be resolved as quickly as possible," Sibal, who was here to attend the SAARC foreign secretaries meeting, said, adding "we have very good and friendly relations with Nepal."
Bilateral relations, mutual cooperation and matters pertaining to SAARC meeting came up for discussion during the half-and-hour meeting Sibal had with Thapa, sources close to the Prime Minister Office said.
Sibal met the Nepalese Prime Minister shortly after his Pakistani counterpart Riaz Khokhar called on Thapa.
The Indian Foreign Secretary also met former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Nepalese Army Chief Pyarjung Thapa, Rastriya Prajatantra party president Pashupati Shumsher Rana, Finance Minister Prakash Chandra Lohani and general secretary of Nepal Communist Party (UML) Madhav Kumar Nepal.
