Lucknow, Oct 06: The Kushinagar District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police, who were transferred soon after four villagers were killed in police firing, were placed under suspension by Uttar Pradesh government today.

DM Ashish Goyal and SP R A Gautam had been suspended in connection with the police firing in Devraj Pipra village on Saturday night, official sources said.
Bodies of four people killed in police action were cremated today even as normalcy returned to the trouble-torn village.
The four were killed when police opened fire to scatter a stone-pelting mob which had gone to the village to persuade a person to call off his hunger strike in support of his demand for a bridge over Choti Gandak River in the district.
Senior state bjp leaders, including Vinay Katiyar and Lalji Tandon, visited the village today and staged a sit-in protesting police action.
The sources said two firs, one against district officials and police personnel, had been registered in connection with the incident.
The state government had yesterday asked the Gorakhpur divisional commissioner to conduct an inquiry into the incident and submit report within two days.
