Pakistan has taken note of the recommendations of Afghanistan ulema advising their government to persuade Laden to voluntarily leave Afghanistan. We hope Taliban keeping in view of gravity of the situation will take a prompt action which is in the interest of Afghan people and which satisfies concerns and demands of the international community, Pakistan foreign office spokesman Riaz Mohammad Khan said.
As a neighbour and friend, Pakistan deeply cares for the welfare of the Afghan people and would not like to see them subjected to new dangers, Khan said. Pakistan is moved by the concern that we have for the brotherly people of Afghanistan. President Pervez Musharraf sent a high level delegation to Kandahar to impress upon Taliban on the gravity of the situation and what the international community expected of them.
Khan said there was need for the present efforts on the part of all those to feel for the safety and well being of Afghan people, to persuade Taliban leadership to right decisions. Bureau Report
