Lucknow, Nov 23: The interest of the cane growing farmers seems to have taken a back seat as political parties in the state are busy with their "war of words" in an effort to draw political mileage from the farmers plight, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) has alleged. The BKU leaders said political parties instead of giving a concrete plan for restart of the sugar mills, are indulging in the 'blame game' by accusing rival parties' of harassing the cane growers and joining hands with sugar mill owners.

They blamed union agriculture minister and RLD leader Ajit Singh for "patronising" sugar mill owners.

Claiming that the sugar mill owners were getting clandestine support from Singh, BKU chief Mahendra Singh Tikait called them "puppets" in the hands of the minister. RLD, on the other hand has questioned the intention of Tikait, saying the BKU agitation was just a "nautanki (drama)" and whatever Tikait was saying in favour of the farmers, was just lip service.
