Taipei, Oct 14: Former US President Bill Clinton is expected to visit Taiwan in November at the behest of a non-profit organization funded by the government, the trip's organizer said today. "We hope the reputation and influence of Clinton, as the former president of the united states, will help boost the island's international exposure and status," said Bajack Kao, director of the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy, which was founded in June.
It will be Clinton's first visit to the island since he left the White House.
During his two-day stay the former president is expected to deliver a speech on a topic of his choosing, Kao told reporters.
The exact date of Clinton's visit was yet to be finalized, he added.
Kao declined to reveal the amount of money involved in Clinton's acceptance of the invitation. The United Daily News said it was around USD 200,000.
Clinton cancelled a trip to Taiwan scheduled for September 2001 following the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York.
